what was missing in me

that I substituted with you

that was my first mistake

building my home in you

so your not wanting me

felt like the end of my world

a necessary death

so I put my pieces back together

tighter than they’ve ever been

my new love waits for an opening

but my lesson has been learned

what do I say at your funeral

when I died a thousand times by your hands

by your words

by your lies

what comfort do I give myself

knowing I bled nearly to death to keep you

and yet you walked away

I built a home in you

but the walls were already crumbling

as they lay your remains to rest

there isn’t one body, there’s two
